God Created the Fishes, Birds & Animals

Memory Verse: Nehemiah 9:6 “You alone are the Lord. You made the heavens, even the highest heavens, and all their starry host, the earth and all that is on it, the seas and all that is in them. You give life to everything, and the multitudes of heaven worship You”

After God created the heavens and the earth, the atmosphere, waters, plants, and the sun, moon and stars, was He done? No, not by a long shot! Everything He had created on the first four days was only in preparation for what He planned on creating next.

The earth was this beautiful blue and green ball, but the only life on it so far were plants. God decided to continue creating. He filled the earth, the skies and the seas with life.

Genesis 1:20 -26
20 “Then God said, “Let the waters swarm with fish and other life. Let the skies be filled with birds of every kind.” 21 So God created great sea creatures and every living thing that scurries and swarms in the water, and every sort of bird—each producing offspring of the same kind. And God saw that it was good. 22 Then God blessed them, saying, “Be fruitful and multiply. Let the fish fill the seas, and let the birds multiply on the earth.” 23 And evening passed and morning came, marking the fifth day. 24 Then God said, “Let the earth produce every sort of animal, each producing offspring of the same kind—livestock, small animals that scurry along the ground, and wild animals.” And that is what happened. 25 God made all sorts of wild animals, livestock, and small animals, each able to produce offspring of the same kind. And God saw that it was good. 26 Then God said, “Let us make human beings in our image, to be like us. They will reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, the livestock, all the wild animals on the earth, and the small animals that scurry along the ground.”

We’ll discuss the creation of mankind in the next lesson, but for now let’s discuss the creation of the fishes, birds and animals.

Every imaginable creature from the tube worms and giant squid in the deepest depths of the oceans, to trout and bluegill fish in the freshwater lakes and rivers, to the tiny hummingbird and majestic eagle, to the mole and the mighty dinosaurs He created on the fifth and sixth days.

Did you know that all the birds and animals at that time of creation were created to be vegetarians?

Genesis 1:29-31
“29 Then God said, "Look! I have given you every seed-bearing plant throughout the earth and all the fruit trees for your food.30 And I have given every green plant as food for all the wild animals, the birds in the sky, and the small animals that scurry along the ground—everything that has life.” And that is what happened. 31 Then God looked over all he had made, and he saw that it was very good! And evening passed and morning came, marking the sixth day.”

God’s creation will once again return to what it was at the beginning, after Jesus returns.

Were you surprised to read that all the birds and animals were created to be vegetarians? It is difficult to picture a mighty tiger or an eagle eating plants and grasses, but your Bible tells you that it will be like that again someday.

Isaiah 11:6-7
6 “In that day the wolf and the lamb will live together; the leopard will lie down with the baby goat. The calf and the yearling will be safe with the lion, and a little child will lead them all.
7 The cow will graze near the bear. The cub and the calf will lie down together. The lion will eat hay like a cow.”

Isaiah 65:25
“25 The wolf and the lamb will feed together. The lion will eat hay like a cow.”

Did you know that there was no death in the world until after Adam sinned?

Romans 5:12
“ 12 When Adam sinned, sin entered the world. Adam’s sin brought death, so death spread to everyone, for everyone sinned.”

Romans 5:17
“17 For the sin of this one man, Adam, caused death to rule over many.”

What does “no death in the world before Adam sinned” mean? It means exactly what it says! No death! Nothing died before Adam sinned!

Since your Bible – the Word of God Himself – says there was no death before the sin of Adam, what does that do to the existence of fossils? Fossils could not have existed before Adam! All fossils had to exist after Adam sinned!

Science tells us that creatures evolved over millions of years from primordial goo to man. If that were true, it would mean death existed before Adam for millions of years before he existed, directly contradicting the Word of God.

Your Bible tells you that sea animals, birds and land animals were created on the fifth and sixth days, immediately before Adam sinned. No animals died before Adam sinned.

Science uses many forms of dating fossils that are flawed. Carbon-14 dating only measures the amount of C-14 in a sample. Anything older than 54,000 years should contain no C-14, as it is not being replaced and dissipates after death. C-14 dating can only be used on matter that was once living. It can’t be used to date rocks. C-14 breaks down into nitrogen. C-14 has a half-life of 5,730 plus/minus 40 years. That means after that period of time there is half the amount of C-14 in the sample as at the time of death. In 11,460 years there will be 1/4 of the amount present at the time of death. After 50,000 years, the amount of C-14 should be so small that it is virtually undetectable – too small to measure. (Answers Book pg. 76-77)*

The past is not open to repeatable experiments in the present. Scientists cannot do experiments on events that happened in the past. They were not there and so far, cannot go there to see what the actual conditions were and repeat their experiments in those conditions. The age of fossils is calculated by assumptions of the past that can’t be proven. They gather information in the present and construct stories about the past. They weren’t there – they can’t prove those ideas. (Answers Book pg. 83)*

Job 38:2-4
“Who is this that questions my wisdom with such ignorant words? 3 Brace yourself like a man,
because I have some questions for you, and you must answer them. 4 “Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth? Tell me, if you know so much.”

We can add to that – or when I created life on the earth?

The first recorded death is found in Genesis 3:21
21 “And the LORD God made clothing from animal skins for Adam and his wife.”

Those animals were killed so Adam and Eve would have something to wear. The animal’s blood was shed so they could be covered.

God created fish, animals that live in the water, birds and land animals for you. He gave you rule over those creatures.

Genesis 1:28
“28 Then God blessed them and said, “Be fruitful and multiply. Fill the earth and govern it. Reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, and all the animals that scurry along the ground.”

You are to be caretakers and rulers over God’s creation. God gave Adam a job – he was to take care of the garden – to tend and keep it.

Genesis 2:15
“ 15 The LORD God placed the man in the Garden of Eden to tend and watch over it.”

God gave you dominion, or rule, over fish, birds and animals. They are never more important than any human being created in the image and likeness of God. God did not create them in His image – He created you in His image and likeness. All people are created in His image and likeness.

You are not to abuse these creatures, but you are also not to worship them either. You are to worship God as Creator – not nature. Nature didn’t create anything. Only God created and He did it by speaking it into existence – “God said, ‘Let there be….”

Every fish, bird and animal that exists now is because its parents and forbears reproduced after their kind. Dog kinds are still dog kinds and cat kinds are still cat kinds, as are cow kinds and horse kinds etc. None of them can reproduce naturally with any other kind. God made the kinds of creatures separate and unique and self-replicating.

God tells us if we worship what He created instead of Him, our minds will become twisted and confused. Those who do that will stop knowing the difference between good and evil. They will see evil as good, fun and desirable.

Romans 1:18-25, 28-32
“18 But God shows his anger from heaven against all sinful, wicked people who suppress the truth by their wickedness. 19 They know the truth about God because he has made it obvious to them. 20 For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God. 21 Yes, they knew God, but they wouldn’t worship him as God or even give him thanks. And they began to think up foolish ideas of what God was like. As a result, their minds became dark and confused. 22 Claiming to be wise, they instead became utter fools. 23 And instead of worshiping the glorious, ever-living God, they worshiped idols made to look like mere people and birds and animals and reptiles. 24 So God abandoned them to do whatever shameful things their hearts desired. As a result, they did vile and degrading things with each other’s bodies. 25 They traded the truth about God for a lie. So they worshiped and served the things God created instead of the Creator himself, who is worthy of eternal praise! Amen.”

28 “Since they thought it foolish to acknowledge God, he abandoned them to their foolish thinking and let them do things that should never be done. 29 Their lives became full of every kind of wickedness, sin, greed, hate, envy, murder, quarreling, deception, malicious behavior, and gossip. 30 They are backstabbers, haters of God, insolent, proud, and boastful. They invent new ways of sinning, and they disobey their parents. 31 They refuse to understand, break their promises, are heartless, and have no mercy. 32 They know God’s justice requires that those who do these things deserve to die, yet they do them anyway. Worse yet, they encourage others to do them, too.”

This is not a punishment from God but is a consequence of choosing wrongly. God doesn’t force Himself on anyone. You are free to choose to believe and obey Him or free not to do so. If you choose not to believe and obey Him and honor Him as Creator, the natural consequences of that wrong choice begin to manifest themselves in your thinking and in your life. Things that once seemed wrong or evil will begin to look good to you and look like fun, so you begin to do them. Some of these things might even be fun or enjoyable at the time, but they all result in pain and suffering eventually – if not for you, then for others. An example is the consequences of pre-marital sex. Although it may be enjoyable for a time, the long-term results can be horribly devastating. Some of these consequences are sexually transmitted diseases, abortion, feelings of abandonment, fatherless children, unwanted children, abused children, poverty etc.

God created the fishes, birds and animals just as He created the universe, earth, atmosphere, waters – by His Word. You are to worship the Creator – not what He created.

Our world is fast approaching, if not already there – worship of the earth and animals. Remember, you are to take care of these creations of God – not worship them. They will never be more important than a single human being created in God’s image and likeness. These creations were created for you – not you for them. Jesus didn’t die for the fishes, birds, animals, earth, plants or universe. He died for you!
