What is Our Hope? When Do We Realize It?
Job:7:6: "My days are swifter than a weaver's shuttle, and are spent without hope. Job 19:10 He breaks me down on every side, And I am gone; My hope He has uprooted like a tree." Job felt that he had been deserted and his "hope uprooted", but after everyone had had their say, including God, Job realized where his hope lay.
Job 42:1-6 "Then Job answered the Lord and said: I know that You can do everything, And that no purpose of Yours can be withheld from You. You asked, 'Who is this who hides counsel without knowledge?' Therefore I have uttered what I did not understand, Things too wonderful for me, which I did not know Listen, please, and let me speak; You said, 'I will question you, and you shall answer Me.' I have heard of You by the hearing of the ear, But now my eye sees You.. Therefore I abhor myself, And repent in dust and ashes."
David begins a lot of his Psalms with "O Lord I put my trust in you"
Ps 71:1 "In You, O Lord, I put my trust; Let me never be put to shame." Ps 16:5,9 "O Lord, You are the portion of my inheritance and my cup; You maintain my lot....Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoices; My flesh also will rest in hope." Ps 34:24 David tells us to "Be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart, All you who hope in the Lord." Ps 71:5 "For You are my hope, O Lord God; You are my trust from my youth."
How to begin our days.
Ps 119:147 "I rise before the dawning of the morning, And cry for help; I hope in Your word."
Where to put our hope.
Ps 130:7 "O Israel, hope in the Lord; For with the Lord there is mercy, And with Him is abundant redemption." Jer 14:8 Jeremiah is in great distress because of all the trouble he is seeing and he prays, "O the Hope of Israel, his Savior in time of trouble..."
What we hope for.
Lam 3:26 "It is good that one should hope and wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord." Acts 24:15 Paul speaking of another hope we have... "I have hope in God...that there will be a resurrection of the dead."
How hope comes to us.
Rom 5:1-5 "Therefore, having been justified by faith we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance, and perseverance, character and character, hope. Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us."
What we wait for, not seeing.
Rom 8:24-25 "For we were saved in this hope, but hope that is seen is not hope; for why does one still hope for what he sees? But if we hope for what we do not see, we eagerly wait for it with perseverance."
What God's grace teaches us.
Titus 2:11-13 "...teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age, looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ..." Bringing what? Salvation!
Col 3:4 "Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory."
I Cor 15:43 "...our bodies sown in dishonor, raised in glory, sown in weakness, raised in power."
Titus 3:7 "...having been justified by His grace we should become heirs according to the hope of eternal life."
Heb 6:19 "This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast..."
(Note) Our hope in Christ is secure, like an anchor.
We have a living hope.
I Peter 1:3-5 "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time."
I Peter 3:15 "But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear;" We should always be ready to give a reason for the hope that is in us. We never know how we will give someone hope. It can be by words or actions or in how we handle a situation.
So what is our hope? Jesus Christ! How do we know and realize this? When we accept Christ as THE HOPE of our lives.
